The Best Baby Board Book—Big Red Barn

Updated on February 27, 2019

Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown

The Big Red Barn is a heart warming story about life at, you guessed it, a Big Red Barn. Children's stories are kind of obvious like that. Anyhow, this charming story is matched with equally beautiful illustrations, by Felicia Bond, to depict a lyrical dance starting with the barn's location, then on to its appearance, activities and most importantly its farm animal occupants. Babies just love to love animals and learn the fascinating sounds that they make. This love has lasted a long time for my family.

I received the Big Red Barn as a baby shower gift and fell in love, even before my daughter was born. Even though my daughter is way too old for it now, it still remains on her book shelf. We both remember every lyrical verse. The Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown is my all time favorite baby book and a wonderful memory that we will have forever. This is one book that every baby should have! It's perfect for your own baby and makes an excellent baby shower gift.

Margaret Wise Brown's Best Baby Books

Margaret Wise Brown's first children's book was published in 1937, When the Wind Blew. She is most famous for her children's books Goodnight Moon, published in 1947, and The Runaway Bunny, published in 1942. While I loved The Runaway Bunny, I can't stand Goodnight Moon. I have been a fan of Margaret's books since I was a child. My first experience was with Little Lost Lamb, published in 1945 and then her Little Golden Books. Before I knew of the Big Red Barn, the Little Lost Lamb was my favorite. After my daughter was born, everyone was like... "Goodnight Moon is the best children's book ever.". I bought it, I read it and honestly, we didn't like it, at all. We didn't enjoy the story or the illustrations. What do you think about Margaret Wise Brown's children's books?
