Pregnancy Intuition and Inner Pre-Birth Communication

Pregnancy Intuition: A Deep Inner Knowingness About Your Pregnancy, Delivery, Or Baby

Did you KNOW you were pregnant, even before you were far enough along to do a pregnancy test?

Perhaps you KNEW the gender of your unborn child, or that you were having twins?

Or maybe you knew that you would be experiencing certain pregnancy complications?

Have you ever known something deep within yourself, even though you didn't have a logical explanation as to how you could know it? If so, you may have been experiencing what many people refer to as inner knowingness or intuition.

What Is Intuition?

Intuition and inner knowingness refer to a sudden insight or a knowingness that comes from deep within oneself. Intuition is often referred to as our sixth sense, as it's a way of gaining information without the use of our physical senses of sight, smell, taste, touch, or hearing. Many people also refer to it as their "gut instinct."

There have been times in my life where I have suddenly become aware of something important, such as that a loved one had been in a car accident, that I was pregnant, that I was heading toward complications during my next pregnancy, and that my four month old baby was in danger, without knowing how I could possibly be aware of this information. The warning or information suddenly popped into my head in the form of a thought. Yet even though it appeared in my head as a thought, there was no doubt in my mind. I KNEW it to be true. This is inner knowingness - or intuition.

Intuition isn't just for really important things though. It can happen to us on a day-to-day basis, about things of any importance, big or small. Intuition can remind us, "Oh, you forgot to turn on the baby monitor in the nursery." It can help you pick out a present for a friend, select what you're preparing for dinner based on the nutrients the baby within you most needs at that moment, decide on a particular doctor or mid-wife, or remember that important presentation for work you're about to leave behind at home.

Intuition Related To Pregnancy Or One's Unborn Baby

Pregnancy and early motherhood are times when women often become aware of a variety of spiritual experiences, including intuition. Several women we've spoken with have reported experiences of deep inner knowingness, including being positive they were pregnant even when the doctor repeatedly told them otherwise, and being sure of the gender of the baby inspite of what others predicted. Others have mentioned suddenly having a strong desire to name their baby something that they'd never thought they'd even consider, or that a relative or close friend "knew" about their pregnancy before they even knew about it themselves. Several moms have even mentioned sensing certain pregnancy complications and/or the need to do something specific to avert those complications.

Inner Pre-Birth Communication With One's Unborn Child

A few mothers have described a special kind of pregnancy inner knowingness which allowed them to communicate directly with their unborn child via their thoughts. Don't miss Lisa's story farther down on this page about her experiences with sharing an inner dialogue with her unborn baby!

Stories of Pregnancy Intuition

If you're interested in reading some stories women have shared with us about their pregnancy intuition, you'll find some on my Spiritual Stories Of Pregnancy Intuition webpage..

Who Has Intuition And What Is It Like?

With my own personal experiences, the information came to me in the form of a thought. As a child, I would have referred to this type of experience as ESP, and would have seen it as a really strange ability exhibited by only a few. Surely it was something I didn't have, I thought! Yet now I see it in an entirely different light, and it no longer seems all that strange, or mystic, to me. In fact, I've become aware of the fact that it's actually quite common, and can happen to anyone! In fact, I think we all have some degree of intuition. The more we become aware of it and rely on it, the more it manifests in our lives.

The Benefits of Using One's Intuition During Pregnancy

Intuition can help us in a variety of ways during pregnancy.

1. It can provide us with information that can help us in our daily lives.

It can let us know we're pregnant even before we've "late," for example. The sooner we know that we're pregnant, the sooner we can start taking better care of our body, eliminating alcohol, eating well, avoiding medications that might harm the baby, etc.

2. Intuition can help us make good decisions.

During pregnancy, we are faced with many choices. We must decide whether to use a doctor or a midwife, and whether to give birth in a hospital, a birthing center, or at home. We must decide if we'd prefer to have a natural childbirth, a medicated childbirth, use hypnosis during labor, etc. We must decide if we prefer to labor in bed, have an underwater birth, use the services of a doula, walk around during labor, sit on a ball or in a tub...

We also must decide things about the baby. If it's a boy, should we have him circumcised? Should we vaccinate? Should we nurse or bottle feed? There are even decisions to make about the things we will buy or things we will do for the baby after he/she is born. Which stroller will be best for our baby? Which types of diapers should we use? Should we play music for our unborn baby to listen to in the womb? Should we teach our baby infant sign language? Which pediatrician should we use?

Sometimes the decisions are easy to make, but other times, even after researching our options, we can feel overwhelmed or just not sure which option would be best. Intuition can help us with all these decisions as well as the many more with which we are faced. The more we use intuition to guide us while making decisions, the stronger our intuitions will grow. Asking for guidance via a sign or a dream are other ways of gaining divine insight about our choices and can be used along with intuition.

3. Intuition can give us sudden insight that helps us solve a problem.

What if you're in labor, but your keys are locked in your car? If we panic during a crisis, it's hard to hear the nudges of Divine Spirit guiding us. Yet if we take the time to relax, trusting that all will work out however it is supposed to, and listen for that inner guidance, oftentimes a wonderful and valid solution will pop into our heads.

4. Intuition can prepare us emotionally for news we are about to hear.

Intuition can help prepare us emotionally for news that might shock us, such as that we are pregnant or having twins. It can also give us advanced notice about upcoming complications with our pregnancies or deliveries. Having a premonition about complications that are about to occur can make the actual experience a little less stressful when it happens.

5. It can alert us to the need to take specific action, before it's too late.

Sometimes our intuition doesn't just prepare us emotionally; it also gives us time to take action to change the course of events. What a blessing that is!

6. Pregnancy intuition can also allow us to communicate with our unborn baby.

The section of this page called, "Sharing An Inner Dialogue With One's Unborn Baby" has more information about this.

How Can We Strengthen Our Intuition?

Intuition is like dreams and spiritual signs in that the more you become aware of it, trust it, and make use of it, the more you experience it.

Increasing Awareness

Taking time to write down your moments of intuition when they come to you is a worthwhile pursuit, as it will help you focus more on that ability, and will thus strengthen it. You can record your experiences with intuition in a journal you keep beside your bed or in your purse, or you can create a special "intuition" folder on your computer and save in it emails you send yourself about your moments of intuition. Of course there are many other ways of recording your intuition stories too, so if you'd like to try this tip, select whatever method works best for you.

Increasing Trust

It can be hard to trust our intuitions at times. How do we know it isn't just our ego or our wishes and hopes talking? We don't always know. Learning discrimination is a key part to developing our intuitions. If your intuition seems to be telling you to do something which will hurt someone, or something you know you shouldn't do, it most likely isn't your intuition at all.

Using Our Intuition More

So how do we go about using our intuitions more? Most people find it easiest to start off with little things. Which way should I drive home from work today? What side dishes should I prepare (or order) for dinner tonight? Which line should I get in at the grocery store? When buying a birthday present for a friend, why not select two or three options then ask yourself, "Which gift would my friend most like?" Gradually begin using your intuition to help you make bigger decisions, such as which car to buy. Try to use your intuition to guide you at least once a day.

Three Keys To Relying On Our Intuition

1. Relax.

2. Relax.

3. Did I mention relax? Ok, so I did, but I can't emphasize that enough! When we are stressed, the inner channels tend to close up and no messages can get through to us. Oftentimes, getting our minds off of whatever problem or situation we are trying to solve, and relaxing or thinking about something else for a while, will allow the inner channels to open up and some insight to come in. Try meditating, going for a walk, working in the garden, playing ball with your dog, working a puzzle, taking a warm bath, or anything else which will help you to relax and take your mind off whatever you are trying to figure out so that your intuition can begin to work.

Sharing An Inner Dialogue With One's Unborn Baby - Lisa's story

Some women we've spoken with have described a special type of inner knowingness which allowed them to experience inner communication in the form of a dialogue with their unborn child. One mother, a lady named Lisa, described her prebirth communication with her two sons like this:

"Mostly it was an inner voices or anything. Occasionally I would see images to accompany the knowing. That was how they communicated with me. When I communicated with them, I would talk to them out loud, as well as have a "daydream" type experience...more along the lines of a visual spiritual exercise."

Lisa had conversations with each of her babies during her pregnancies. After her children were born, she was able to confirm much of what they had told her before their birth.

Unfortunately, the results of my old poll got deleted. Here's what this poll use to say.

Very interesting thoughts here. Never had any intuition about my pregnancies but always knew as soon as the desire for cucumbers or something else turned up. It's good to read of other people's experiences. Featured on Blessed by Skiesgreen 2013 and also on Parenting Young Children. Hugs

I knew I was pregnant with all of my children before any tests were taken. I think I knew within a couple of days on my first two. It took me a couple of days longer on my last one. :) It does make for a very long nine months, but that's more days getting to know the child, too. With my miscarriage, I knew the baby wasn't going to stick around. The day after I went in to hear its heart beat for the first time, I lost it. But, I think it was a way for us to say goodbye for now to each other. Now my kids love to hear the stories about their pregnancies and births and how different each of them were. Thanks for sharing this beautiful lens. :)

I so enjoyed this lens. I am a firm believer in intuition and had an awareness of my children each and every time. The first time was amazing and a little unnerving, this lens is perfect for the first time Mom to know how to proceed. Every one of them I knew I was pregnant ahead of any doctor visits and I knew what sex they were going to be. Thanks for a delightful experience.

I knew I was pregnant each time before there was proof. The last time I knew on a spiritual level when I conceived because it was fulfilling an agreement made in a prior lifetime.

Intuition is something we have, but isn't always that clear. I have often had intuition - but once in a while I am wrong. I like the idea of strengthening your intuition. Thank you for all your suggestions!

From Floppypoppygifts: "I think that with each pregnancy there are special events. I think every pregnant woman should keep a journal of dreams, intuitions and feelings not only for their future pregnancies but to share with the child. During my 2nd pregnancy I had a dream that said a pregnant woman is a ring and the child is the precious stone within the setting. I love that! Cheers~cb"

I've had intuition about other things in my child's life, but not as much when I was pregnant. Lots of communicating with my baby with talking with her, responding to her movements, and getting to know her personality, but no real intuition or premonitions.

Love all the little additions, clipart, ect you made to the lens. I find so many people that totally ignore their inner voices, yet depend on other people to make choices for them, instead of listening to their inner selves and choose accordingly. PS if you want the whole story of my comments above shoot me an e-mail and I'll send it to you.
