Gay Man Recalls Father’s Beautiful Reaction to Him ‘Coming Out’ In 1950’s

Going back a couple of generations, it's easy to understand how it must have been even more terrifying to come out for the first time, especially while worrying whether or not those you loved would still accept you when you did.

As it turned out, he actually knew his son was gay the whole time — and he imparted some important wisdom.

"Don't sneak, because if you sneak like you did today, it means you think you're doing the wrong thing," his dad advised him. "And if you run around spending your whole life thinking you're doing the wrong thing, then you'll ruin your immortal soul."
