In the weeks since the Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade as the law of the land, there's been a lot of talk about abortion from both those who are politically on the right and on the left. Naturally, this conversation often ends up pointing to the number of kids who are left in foster care and are without stable homes — is that a population that, as a society, we should be adding to?
Now, one child who has grown up in foster care is sharing her perspective on the subject in a video on TikTok, and it's something that all people need to hear, no matter where they stand on this issue.

She shared that she often hears from pro-life people that babies who are born to people who don't want to be mothers should be sent to foster care instead of opting for abortion, but as a child in foster care, her line of thought is, "why did my mom bring me into this world?"
"Don't speak for us in an effort to take away women's right to their body," she continued in her caption on the video. "We didn't choose to be born but the world chose to hurt us."

It's heartbreaking to see what she goes through, but it's so important to make sure that voices like hers — the kind that come from people with lived experience — are at the center of the debate.
It couldn't have been an easy journey for her, but good for her for speaking out about what matters to her, especially at such a young age.
