Mom’s Dark Humor About Dating Advice for Her Teen Is Too Good

If you don’t laugh, you’ll cry.

The thing about kids is that they need you to be able to answer just about any question and give advice on any topic, but most of us aren't exactly qualified to give lessons in every area of life. And the thing about teenagers is that they know you're not qualified to give lessons in lots of things, and not only do they know why you're not qualified, they're not afraid to remind you.

Like in this video from @mommacusses. Mom is giving her teen a talking-to, then the kid claps her hand over her mouth. "When I'm trying to give her dating advice but she reminds me I picked her bio-dad," she wrote. Ouch!

"I mean she’s not wrong," wrote the mom. "But I also picked Jack and that counts"

Hey, some of us don't get it right on the first try (or the second). Life and relationships are complicated, and we can only do the best we can do. Nobody wants children to be affected by what's going on between grown-ups. The main thing is that kids know they're loved, no matter what.

Commenters totally had this mom's back for doing the best she can, and could absolutely relate to the struggle.
"You also chose the man who stepped up to be the father figure for her"
"Me to my kids: never marry someone you dated in high school! Kids: you were 15 when you met dad…"
"my mom always says 'Go for the exact opposite of the ones I attract'"
"I did the trial and error so you don't have to"
"If I can’t be a good example, I can serve as a warning."
“I made the mistakes so that you can learn from them.”
"Because you can give her all the deets on what NOT to do! See, you know stuff!"

Teenagers don't let you get away with much, that's for sure. But at the same time, they've got to have respect for what you've been through. Someday they're sure to understand.
