Mom Instructs White Kid to “Find a Big Black Guy” If They Get Lost

And her reasoning is pretty sound.

As a parent, one of our worst nightmares has to be losing our child while we're out somewhere. We've all worried that, in a crowded place, our kid is going to get lost — no matter how careful we are about safety, it's a reality we need to be prepared for. So it's no surprise that may parents spend a lot of times drilling into their kids what they should do if the worst happens and they get separated from their family.

While many people's emergency plans involve agreeing on a meet up location and memorizing phone numbers, one mom on TikTok is taking a bit of a different approach. She told her white child to look for a "big Black guy" if he gets lost... and the reason why actually makes a lot of sense.

In the video, we can hear Mom asking her child what he should do if he gets lost, to which he responds, "find a big Black guy," adding that he should tell him that he's lost and needs to find a way home.

Mom added that her reasoning behind this is because "77% of child predators are not Black." And she's not wrong. Though figures vary depending on the research, one study from the Bureau of Justice did determine that 77.6% of released child molesters were white.

No matter what approach you take, it's a good idea to teach your child how to spot a "safe adult" if they get lost — in some situations, that might be finding another mom who has kids with her or an employee of the place they're at when they're lost.

Emergency plans are so important, but hopefully, your family will never need to use what they practiced. Stay safe out there!
