Home renovations are all the rage these days, so why shouldn't the trend extend to toys? @shay_creates is in the middle of renovating her kids' playoom, and her husband brought home a secondhand kitchen set to add to the room. The only problem? It's "no Pottery Barn piece" as the mom puts it, and the aesthetic is all about primary colors and whimsical drawings. But after a trip to her local dollar store's home improvement section (yup, the dollar store had a home improvement section), she came up with one clever update to give the set a more modern vibe.

Nice backsplash! It'll be really interesting to see where the rest of this renovation goes, because it's still more kitsch than modern and sleek...but as long as that dollar store's home improvement section stays stocked, the options are endless. Interestingly, not all commenters were down with the update. "Why would you change this?" asked one, while another said "I knew where this was going but was praying I was wrong." But one commenter summed it up: "Don’t listen to these comments," she wrote. "Toy makeovers are awesome! Obviously not everyone’s cup of tea but I think it’s so fun to make them look real." Can't wait to see the end result!
