Why Play Pictionary With Kids?

Pictionary is a great game for kids. It helps develop imagination, communication, and teamwork skills. It's also a great icebreaker on the first day of school, at a party, or at a sleepover. Plus, it's so much fun!

The following word ideas are suitable for kids of all ages.

How to Play Pictionary

To play Pictionary, you will need:

  • Players (at least six players)
  • Something to draw on (a whiteboard, or a notepad)
  • Something to draw with (appropriate pens)
  • Recommended: A judge

Rules and Directions

  1. Separate players into two teams. The first team will choose a player to draw first. That player will get a word from the list.
  2. If using a judge, the judge will tell the player their word. Otherwise, the player must read it from the list.
  3. The player will then have three minutes to draw their word. As they draw, their team attempts to guess what the word is. The drawing player cannot speak or draw any letters or numbers.
  4. If the word is guessed within the time limit, the guessing team gets a point.
  5. The other team then chooses a player to draw and takes their turn in the same way.
  6. Repeat until each player has drawn at least once and one team has ten points.

Role of the judge:

  • Tells player which word to draw
  • Helps player choose another word if first word unknown.
  • Enforces time limits.
  • Keeps score.
