I'm irregular-regular, meaning I get my periods every three months. Now, my husband and I are trying for children. My question is, when should I take a pregnancy test if my period is in May?

I personally have never heard of such a thing, except when caused by birth control. Usually, conception occurs ten to fourteen days after a period, and then a woman can test for pregnancy two to three weeks after conception.
